This toolkit was designed to increase and improve the active and meaningful involvement of the community sector in HIV vaccine advocacy, research and development through action planning.
The guide builds on the efforts and lessons learned around HIV vaccine advocacy and mobilization. The guide and accompanying documents can easily be adapted to other areas of HIV research advocacy, treatment or other prevention approaches, such as microbicides.
In particular, the guide has been developed to support facilitators in taking workshop participants through a process that will allow them to develop draft action plans on advocacy around the involvement of the community sector in HIV vaccine research and development. As many communities that are involved in vaccine research and development are also involved in wider prevention research, it is important to encourage these links during the workshop and to encourage the integration of vaccine research and development activities with other prevention research activities where appropriate.
You will find a range of tools, fact sheets, and other resources on this CD-ROM. They are intended to help facilitate the design of workshops that are appropriate to different contexts.
This resource was made possible with the support of the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) of the Government of Canada, and the Ford Foundation.
