Global Fund Advocacy

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has played a unique and indispensable role over the last decade to ensure that national AIDS programs are effective and meet the needs of the populations for which they are designed. However, despite these directives, several studies have highlighted missed opportunities to support the planning, implementation and oversight of these programs. This has been of great concern to the Global Fund and its partners, who recognize that strong implementation and coordination support are prerequisites for a successful and sustained response to HIV.

ICASO, with its mandate to support and strengthen effective responses to the AIDS pandemic, developed and implemented a global program, the Civil Society Action Team (CSAT) initiative, to support greater effectiveness of programs supported by the Global Fund at country and regional levels. After over 5 years, ICASO is taking on board the lessons learned and adapting its strategies to match the new contextual reality of the response to HIV and AIDS, and the challenges and opportunities that these present.

Our programming aims to :

  • Increase and improve the role and action of community sector organizations in Global Fund governance and implementation, particularly in the CCM.
  • Increase the availability of high quality evidence needed to support advocacy and accountability for community sector actors to undertake watchdog functions.
  • Increase advocacy at the global level for greater accountability of all stakeholders and for more effective AIDS responses supported by the Global Fund.
