Global Fund
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) was created to dramatically increase resources to fight three of the world's most devastating diseases, and to direct those resources to areas of greatest need. As a partnership between governments, civil society, the private sector and affected communities, the Global Fund represents an innovative approach to international health financing.
ICASO has been involved in the Global Fund since its inception and has served as the Communication Focal Point (CFP) of the Developed Country NGO Board Delegation from 2002 to 2007. Having established the CFP role, ICASO now focuses on monitoring the Gloabal Fund’s governance and operations through active involvement in the Board and Committee meetings. In addition, we will continue to support resource mobilization advocacy to ensure that the Global Fund is fully funded.
As more programmes funded by the Global Fund are being implemented, inevitably some of them experience bottlenecks. The Global Implementation Support Team (GIST) was established as a forum for UN technical agencies and major funding entities to mobilise and harmonise a rapid response to grant implementation bottlenecks. ICASO has worked with the GIST and partner NGOs to develop a Civil Society Action Team (CSAT) to broker technical support to civil society organizations and coordinate advocacy for this support at local, national and regional levels.
