Funding Advocacy
The Global Fund has proven to be one of the most effective funding mechanisms for responding to AIDS, TB and malaria. In its first five years, the Global Fund has helped triple the number of people receiving antiretrovirals (ARVs) in developing countries, provided food, shelter, protection, education and medical support for 1.2 million AIDS orphans and vulnerable children,
detected and treated millions of new TB patients, and became the largest financier of
insecticide-treated bed nets in the world.
The global resource needs for AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria are approximately US$89 billion in 2008-2010. Community sector advocates are requesting the donor community to pledge and then commit a total of $18 billion to the Global Fund for the replenishment period 2008-2010.
ICASO supports community sector organizations to advocate for Global Fund resource mobilization. It does this through developing and disseminating time-sensitive information and facilitating community sector advocacy initiatives. In particular, ICASO produces Advocacy Alerts in English, Spanish, French and Russian to disseminate advocacy messages and works with partners to coordinate in-country community sector campaigns targeting donor and recipient governments.
