Conferences
As a community sector co-organizer of the International AIDS Conference and a member of the Conference Coordinating Committee (CCC), ICASO’s principle aim is to ensure that community sector perspectives and voices are reflected in all programmatic and policy aspects of the conferences. ICASO does this through community sector consultations, documenting needs and lessons for on-going planning, and providing support to community representatives in program committees.
For the AIDS2008 conference in Mexico City, ICASO is partnering with the Global Network of People Living with HIV/IDS (GNP+) to support more meaningful and effective involvement of PLHIV and community sector organisations in the conference. The joint project involves undertaking outreach work, mobilizing resources and developing guides. This includes the web-based Guide to Community Involvement in AIDS2008.
ICASO is also involved in the GNP+ led ‘Living with HIV Partnership’, a consortium of organizations committed to the empowerment of people living with HIV/AIDS and their communities. The Partnership is holding a meeting prior to AIDS2008 conference as an opportunity for PLHIV to organize themselves, to provide mutual support, and to discuss and mobilize around key issues and agendas throughout the AIDS 2008 conference.
