Board Involvement
NGOs and communities living with HIV, TB, and malaria have been instrumental in the design and on-going evolution of the Global Fund. As a rather unique multi-stakeholder international organization, it has NGOs and communities on its Board with equal status and voting rights.
ICASO participates in the Developed Country NGO delegation to the Global Fund Board and facilitates NGO input into Board committees. This is achieved through hosting teleconferences of support group members, on-going email and web-based communication, and information gathering from grassroots organizations in the regions most affected by HIV and AIDS.
The NGO and Community delegations are involved in on-going discussions on ways to strengthen the role of civil society in the Global Fund’s governance and operations. These discussions were summarized at a meeting in Amsterdam on 5-7 January 2007, with a set of recommendations presented to the Board’s Policy and Strategy Committee in March 2007. The full report consists of three parts: the meeting report, the full text of the proposed measures, and a key policy paper.
