Capacity
Developing leaders who can effectively represent key populations
ICASO’s experience has shown that leadership development and strengthening are often un-focused and fixated on the numbers of people trained rather than on the quality of the training, its sustainability and impact. Often, the people who are trained will never use the new ‘skills and knowledge’ because they are either de-linked from processes and resources to apply it, or they do not have the underlying leadership capacity. In addition, when funding is made available at the country level, community leaders often do not have the knowledge, information, or capacity to make effective use of these resources.
To address this, ICASO provides mentorship, strategic advice and technical and financial support to community leaders to engage and influence policy; for example by supporting country-level leaders to become agents of change in their Country Coordinating Mechanisms (CCMs).
