Supporting community-based research and policy analysis

Building Community Capacity for Action Research and Policy Analysis is the 1st of four components in ICASO's Theory of Change (see also Capacity, Accountability and Collaboration).

While it is widely acknowledged that the community sector has linkages to grassroots realities that are critical to effective programme and policy development, the evidence base emerging from the community has often been criticized for lacking in methodological rigour.  ICASO’s experience in supporting these efforts has shown that with focused guidance and resources, strong but flexible methodologies, and by linking communities to ‘technical’ expertise, the capacity of community groups to conduct credible action-research and analysis is dramatically increased.

ICASO suppports community-based research on issues that are critical to impact policy and programming debates and strategies.
