CALL FOR NOMINATIONS (scroll to the bottom for all relevant attachments)

XX International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2014)

Background

The biennial International AIDS Conference is the premier gathering for those working in the field of HIV, as well as policymakers, people living with HIV and others committed to ending the epidemic. AIDS 2014 is expected to convene delegates from all around the world.

AIDS2014 is being organized in a partnership between the International AIDS Society (IAS), as the convenor, the international community partners including the Positive Women’s Network (PWN), the Global Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (GNP+), the International Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS (ICW), the International Council of AIDS Service Organizations (ICASO), Sidaction, local Australian and regional partners, UNAIDS and its co-sponsors.

As the Conferences have evolved, so has the planning process. Increasingly the programme committees (Community, Leadership and Accountability, and Scientific) have a central role in defining the conference programme. Community involvement is an important part of this evolution of the planning process. As such, the international and regional community partners of the conference are initiating an open call for nominations for Programme Committee members.

The purpose of the committees is to provide overall planning and guidance for the development of the Programme at the XX International AIDS Conference in 2014 in Melbourne, Australia. Each committee is comprised of co-chairs and committee members.

The role of committee members is volunteer and there is no remuneration for participating. Travel and related expenses are covered by the conference budget with the exception of members affiliated with sponsoring institutions that have previously agreed to cover costs. Previous committee members have found that the position can be intermittently demanding and requires some dedicated time outside of scheduled meetings (approximately 2-5 hours per week). In addition to scheduled meetings there will be frequent email communication and some teleconferences.
