ICASO Launches the e-Guide for Community Involvement at AIDS 2012

THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF AIDS SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS (ICASO) LAUNCHES THE E-GUIDE FOR COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN AIDS 2012

Toronto, Canada and Durban, South Africa – December 1, 2011

The International Council of AIDS Service Organizations (ICASO) in partnership with AIDS2012 has developed an E-Guide for Community Involvement at AIDS2012. The e-Guide is designed to assist community delegates by providing relevant and practical information on conference related issues, including information exchange platforms that will enable them to take their rightful place and participate meaningfully at AIDS2012.  The e-guide can be accessed at the following web site:

From 22 – 27 July 2012, the 19th International AIDS Conference (IAC) will be held in Washington DC, United States.  The IAC is managed by the International AIDS Society (IAS) in collaboration with international and local partners.

AIDS2012 expects to receive around 20,000 delegates representing nearly 200 countries, including more than 2,000 journalists. The conference theme Turning The Tide Together reflects a unique moment in time when after two decades the conference moves back to the United States since the lifting of travel restrictions for people living with HIV – restrictions that were based on fear, rather than science - in 2010.

Turning The Tide Together is also an important reminder that the HIV epidemic does not exist in a vacuum, and that protecting and promoting human rights, including the rights of key populations, women and girls, and eliminating stigma, criminalization, and discrimination, which fuel the epidemic are essential strategies for all stakeholders in the global response to HIV.

We look forward to working with you in the build up to AIDS2012 and during the conference, and to facilitate community information exchange through the e-guide.
