Conference Hubs

Conference Hubs are regional meetings where selected sessions of the Conference will be broadcast live and followed by moderated discussions. Reports of the discussions can then be posted on the Conference website.

Conference Hubs expand participation in the conference by allowing people not otherwise able to attend in person to view selected sessions. In addition, Hubs will allow greater focused attention on regional issues. As the Conference grows larger and more expensive every year, regional Hubs may lead to multiple, concurrent and smaller conferences in the future, especially in places without the capacity to hold larger international conferences.

There will be three prospective types of Hubs for AIDS 2008: 1) Official Hubs organized by the International AIDS Society and a local partner; 2) Partner Hubs run by the organizing partners of the International Conference (ICASO, GNP+, ICW, AHRN, World YWCA, UNAIDS, etc); and 3) Independent Hubs organized by any interested organization or individual. All organizations will have to have the room and technology to allow for on-line broadcasts of selected conference sessions, and be free to all participants.

At the moment, the only confirmed Hub is one planned for the University of KwaZulu Natal in Durban, South Africa.

Registration for Hubs opened in January 2008. More information is available at the Conference Hubs webpage, or by contacting
at the IAS.
